Cathy Reviews Al McCarn’s New Book!!

A few days ago I reviewed Al McCarn’s terrific new book, Give Me A Place Where I May Dwell.   Since then, a group of us who are gathering from across the US at the B’ney Yosef National Congress have been in communication.

Give Me A PlaceThis morning, Cathy posted a note to Al for all of us to see in which she basically reviewed the book (in better fashion than I did…) as well as shared some of her prayers and thoughts as Abba has been leading her regarding community and the regathering of His exiles.

I asked her is I could share this with my blog and received the ‘green light.’  Following, for your edification, is her email.  I encourage each of you to order several copies of this book and read/share with any and all!!  (I had 10 copies come in today’s mail!!  SO exciting!)

Good morning, Al!

I really wanted this to be a comment on your blog in response to the announcement about the book; but I didn’t see a comment link, so I will use this as a forum instead. The book arrived on Tuesday afternoon and I had a chance to quickly read it just before a family drama began to unfold which has kept me quite tied up this week. I woke early this morning [Friday] and began to read it again and to highlight what I see as key passages. The organization of your material is excellent and it is written on a level that most people can understand or that, at least, should provoke the reader  to launch their own investigation, if so inclined. Thank you for your diligence and for taking time to allow the Ruach to use you as an instrument!

I must admit the suggestion to “imagine” ourselves as a nation took me by surprise; but, upon reflection, it makes perfect sense. Continue reading

“IT IS MY BROTHERS WHOM I AM SEEKING”

Following is a terrific paper with lots of Scripture detailing the vision of Ephraim from a Hebraic perspective from an author IN the Land.

ranger6I do not yet know exactly where/how Abba is leading in this time, but feel so drawn to take a stand at this point for Ephraim and his return to the Land.  Personally, my attitude of late is almost a swashbuckling swagger in terms of bringing Ephraim back together and taking a stand.  It feels much like my warrior Airborne Ranger days when we suited up to head into the bush for a mission.  My attitude is definitely that of a warrior.

For months I have been getting into shape and am back to military weight and nearly the same physique, though 25 years older than my heyday.  But the attitude has come back.  I am so ready to take a stand…  not in a braggadocios way, but simply a ‘the time is NOW!’ stand.  I know not what lies ahead, but Abba has definitely been awakening the warrior and molding me.  Please pray for wisdom, discernment and patience.  I am ready to hit the trail.  (My Sunday School class got some yesterday…  listen in!)  No prisoners!  The intensity is way up!

This upcoming Congress is so at the center of my scope.  It is the focus of my prayers, action and attitude.  We have a mission…  I can’t explain it, but feel this call.  May Abba lead and guide!!

Here is the article from Etz B’ney Yosef,  ‘The Tree of Joseph.’

“IT IS MY BROTHERS WHOM I AM SEEKING”
The Lost Sheep of the House of Israel are Returning Home
We, the Jewish Nation that lives in Israel, have a surprise coming. Individuals from all
over the world, in growing numbers, are waking up to the possibility that they might
belong to the People of Israel. Are they Jews? Are they descendants of Jews? The
answer is “not necessarily”. How is it, then, that they assume some kind of relatedness to
the People of Israel? Well, these individuals view themselves as belonging to that part of
the Nation of Israel which has assimilated, and supposedly has been lost among the
nations of the world for thousands of years. That, however, will not always be the case… Continue reading

Sunday School, P.6. “I am the way…”

Yesterday’s Sunday School lesson begins with a little information about my upcoming trip to Israel and how you can help.  Then, for our “appiteaser,” we looked at the phrase Peter uses in I Peter 1:16, “be ye holy as I am holy,” and where he gets it.  And, the lesson proper deals with Yeshua’s claim, “I am the way,” and what that means.

No powerpoint this week…

I’m Going To Israel!! (And, you can help!)

I am so incredibly excited right now, I do not know whether to run, jump, dance or…  Doors to a long time dream to spent time in The Land have just opened up!

Here’s the scoop!!

Yes, I have long wanted to visit the Land of our fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, but have been content to wait.  Early last Fall I received an invitation to participate in a conference in May 2015, but because we were packing to move with no place to go and because I saw no financial way to participate, I put the invite on the shelf and forgot about it.

A few weeks ago a friend asked me if I have any needs in ministry that they might be able to help out with, and at the time I knew of nothing, so I thanked them and politely declined.  Then a couple days ago, as I read Al McCarn’s new book, I was reminded of the conference and it purpose: It is the First Ephramite/Northern Israel National Congress, details at link. I was prompted to pray and ask if this was something I needed to pursue.  Continue reading

The days of Elijah??

A few months ago a friend sent me a now viral video of a bunch of Marines singing ‘These are the Days of Elijah.’  Again, a dear friend forwarded it to me a couple days ago (thanks, Connie).  Certainly, it is a heart-warming and worshipful video, and I was blessed again.  But I have to wonder…

Do they, or most of Christendom, understand the very words that they are singing?  I dare say not, even as their tongues manifest the move of the Spirit in our day.

Let’s take a brief look at the lyrics and see what this incredible song is actually saying and what they are professing. [My comments interspersed]

“Days Of Elijah”

These are the days of Elijah
Declaring the word of the Lord, yeah
And these are the days of Your servant, Moses
Righteousness being restored

The days of Elijah, the days of Moses…  Malachi 4:4-6 are Continue reading

DYNAMITE radio interview and discussion!!

Yesterday, I reviewed Al McCarn’s new book, Give Me A Place Where I May Dwell.  This morning I had opportunity to sit and listen to his interview on Hebrew Nation Radio.

In the first hour, not without some technical difficulties, McCarn discussed his journey and how the book came about wherein he asserts the right of Ephraim and proposes a plan of action as the ‘bones of Ezekiel’ begin to come together.  It is a good interview, but the second hour is DYNAMITE!!  HNR’s second guest is a no-show, so the hosts engage in a round table discussion explaining and reviewing the Scriptures concerning Ephraim and the prophesied return and reunification of All Israel.

This second hour will make an excellent primer for those who have no background and are trying to understand why and what we believe according to Scripture reference the destiny of One Body.

I highly recommend this interview, particularly the second half for those trying to understand or learn to articulate the fulness of Scripture.

Book Review: Give Me A Place Where I May Dwell

An Idea Whose Time Has Come

In February 1896, Theodor Herzl wrote a little booklet, published in Vienna and Leipzig, titled Der Judenstaat (The Jew State).  He argued for the establishment of a homeland for the scattered Jews abroad.  His seminal work is widely regarded as the call to action that led to the creation of modern day Israel.

Give Me A PlaceYesterday I received an electronic proof of another such work.  Friend and fellow sojourner, Al McCarn, author of The Barking Fox blog, has just written and released Give Me A Place Where I May Dwell, An Ephramite Affirmation.

I awoke to my normal 4:20 a.m. alarm and found a pdf copy of the book in my email.  I immediately downloaded it, not knowing anything more than the little overview on his blog, and began reading the acknowledgements and preface.  Immediately, I was enthralled.  Once at work (I drive a school bus and help oversee the lot) I was walking from bus to bus in the cold darkness cranking buses and glued to my phone as I devoured page after page.  This went on all day as I finished the 108 pages before sunset.

Honestly, wave after wave of emotion hit me as I considered Al’s thoughtful and articulate call to action!  The time has come!

Since the beginning of the Torah Awakening that has spilled out of Messianic Judaism into burgeoning non-Jewish Messianics, there has been growing conversation wondering if maybe, just maybe, Father has a place for us among Am Israel.  Scripture points to Gentiles being grafted in, but few have dared to reach beyond the realm of hopeful pining to actually assert a call to and plan of action.  McCarn boldly and yet sensitively makes his (our) case.

The Barking Fox Wrote A Book!

This is EXCITING news!! I am so looking forward to getting a copy of my good friend, Al MaCarn’s new book!! As soon as I do I plan to read an review!!

Woo hoo!!

Albert J. McCarn's avatarTHE BARKING FOX

Give Me A Place Where I May Dwell is a meticulously researched book that makes a compelling biblical and contemporary case for building a global consciousness among Hebrew Roots believers—and eventually finding a homeland for these Ephraimites in Israel.Give Me A Place Where I May Dwell is a meticulously researched book that makes a compelling biblical and contemporary case for Hebrew Roots believers building a national consciousness as a people within the Commonwealth of Israel.

What was the last question Yeshua’s followers asked Him before He returned to the Father?  According to Acts 1:6, they asked, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Why would they ask that?  Because restoration of the kingdom of Israel is the single greatest promise and prophecy in the entire Bible!  From Moses John the Apostle, every prophet and nearly every book contain references to God’s promise to regather and restore all of Israel, the House of Ephraim and the House of Judah, to the Land promised to our fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.  That is the national mission Messiah Yeshua Himself proclaimed:

But He answered and said, “I was…

Sunday School, P. 5 David, Goliath and Yeshua’s 2nd Coming

This week in Sunday School we took a look at Yeshua in the Tanakh as seen in David at the defeat of Goliath, I Samuel 17.  I began our teaser with a poem I previously posted.  Then, we looked at Psalm 23:3, also previously touched on here.  Here is the ppt for the lesson, containing both poem and notes for the first part of the lesson.  Paths v Cycles

Toward the end, I give a homework assignment and tell them that Torah is GOOD!! handout will help them.  I HIGHLY recommend this one page study sheet.

Here is the 45 minute audio of the lesson that ultimately connects David and Goliath with our Messiah’s Second Coming, also previously discussed on this blog.

Enjoy and please share.  Feedback welcome.

Shalom, shalom!

Can God ‘unsanctify’ the ‘sanctified?’

Some recent musings….

Yesterday evening I was test driving my new toy from Messianic Jewish Family Bible.  (I’ll MJFB TLVreview it after having more time, but I did shed tears of joy as I read their story and vision.  Limited reservations at this point, but they might be assuaged.)

I was selecting and reading random texts and considering the phrasing to gain insight into the minds of the translators when I thought to look at Genesis 2:2-3, in light of recent debate/discussion about the ‘seventh day’ on this blog.  The MJFB’s Tree of Life Version renders the verses,

God completed – on the seventh day – His work that He made, and He ceased – on the seventh day – from all His work that He made.  Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, for on it He ceased from all His work that God created for the purpose of preparing.

The phrase – “and sanctified it” – lept off the page. Immediately a question popped into my head, “Can God ‘unsanctify’ something He has already ‘sanctified?’

I stared at the ceiling pondering and Jeremiah, my 15 year old asked what I was thinking.  (They know the look when wheels are turning…)

“Can God ‘unsanctify’ something He has already sanctified?,” I mused.  “By that I mean, can He profane, or make common, something that He has set apart as holy?”

Almost immediately Jeremiah retorted, Continue reading

Sunday School, P.4. The Memra (Crash Course)

We had a terrific Sunday school class yesterday as we continued the series I am guests teaching, Yeshua in the Tanak.  I introduced the Memra from the Targumim.  Following is the audio as well as a link for the powerpoint slides I used, beginning about 20 minutes into the presentation.

Please feel free to use and pass along these classes.  I pray they bless and encourage others.

Heresy Hunting, or Truth Telling?

I love James Pyles, my friend who hosts and writes My Morning Meditations.  I pretty much knew that when I posted my ‘rather provocative challenge‘ that he would show up…  I just didn’t expect to be described, albeit tongue in cheek, as a heresy hunter.  Honestly, I’ve read his blog long enough to know the shoe fits his foot.  But, it is funny, anyway.

His post, however, made me consider several thought trails…

My first thought was, “What would Rav Shaul/Paul have done if he had access to the internet?  Would he have contended for truth on a blog among other medium?  Would all of his blog posts have been cookies and cream, hugs and ‘get along,’ or would he have occasionally brought the hammer?  Isn’t he provocative at points?”

That led to my immediate second thought, “Don’t we have more than just one tool in the tool bag?  Continue reading

Ex. 14:19, The Angel of God and the Pillar of Cloud

Last week in my guest teaching at a local Sunday School, I mentioned this verse and briefly drew a connection between God (Exodus 13:18)

18 Hence God led the people around by the way of the wilderness to the [a]Red Sea; and the sons of Israel went up in martial array from the land of Egypt.

and, the Angel of God, (Exodus 14:19)

19 The angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them.

Well, today someone forwarded a terrific article to me that takes the connection miles further with Yehovah’s manifestation.  I definitely recommend it.  Connections to Yeshua drawn throughout!

The Pillar of Cloud by Day — Fire by Night
YAVOH Cover graphic

One of the most fascinating aspects of the wilderness journey for the Children of Israel was the cloud by day and the fire by night. God provided this visible sign to lead them in their journeys from Egypt through the wilderness until they reached the land He promised to them.

The cloud is called a pillar throughout Scripture because of its vertical shape.  Continue reading here.

Sunday School, P.3 Angel of the Lord cont.

This week in Sunday school we had an abbreviated class.  Many in the class are members of the choir, so the two service schedule as well as length of services affects our class.  Interestingly, I came prepared for a shorter lesson and some questions and answers (which we did not get to) so it all worked out.

The class seems to average around 35, though last week was a ‘full house’ approaching 45 or 50.  The congregation itself, I would estimate, in the 2500 range.  BIG church in my experience.  So, this is a considerable witness opportunity to the Hebraic roots of our faith and the connectedness/wholeness of Scripture and the significance of the Torah in the life of the believer.  Keep me/us in prayer.

Following is the recording of this week’s lesson as we wrap up the Angel of the Lord segments.  I did notice as I went back and listened that I made a couple very small foibles Continue reading
