The weekly email from the It’s Good to be a Man blog challenging and encouraging men is a terrific piece to get each Shabbat morning. I highly recommend it for my male readers. Ladies, it is worth your time as well. Maybe you know a man you can pass this along to.

Following is this week’s complete email. I hope you find it interesting and challenging enough to subscribe.

Shalom!

to me
Here’s a kind of broad theme for this week:

Wisdom is pattern recognition. You can learn about the pattern from a book, but you can’t learn to recognize it in the world, and act on it rightly, without actually seeing it in the world—repeatedly and in different ways.

So many men have one foot hovering over the gas and the other tapping the brake.

Why?

Because they’re afraid they’ll be successful, and then everyone will find out they’re a fraud.

Lot and the Second Exodus

While reading some notes about this week’s portion, I noticed something regarding Lot that I’ve never noticed before that connects the Lot story with the Second Exodus!!

As many others have pointed out before, Lot’s escape from Sodom is a Passover story. The basis most recognize for this assertion is Genesis 19:3.

19 Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he stood up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. And he said, “Now behold, my lords, please turn aside into your servant’s house, and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.” They said, “No, but we shall spend the night in the public square.” Yet he strongly urged them, so they turned aside to him and entered his house; and he prepared a feast for them and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

While ‘feast’ does not connect with ‘moed’, the word ‘matzah’ does. And, Genesis 18 is believed to have happened right before Passover.

King David as prophecy of the Second Exodus…

The lives of many prophets, patriarchs, and other Biblical characters serve as prophecy. Joseph is a major example that we have explored on several occasions. David, also, is one we have explored as the face-off with Goliath parallels several sections of Revelation.

Recently, a friend pointed me to another interesting picture of David in the Scriptures that confirms something I have pointed to multiple times. Let’s read and then make the connection.

UPDATED: Dear Ephraim Frank (Re: It’s Not Polygamy – It Is Polygyny)

The article originally published 10/24/2020 has been updated on 11/15/2020. See notes at the end.

My dear brother Ephraim,

It was recently brought to my attention that you published a paper titled It Is Not Polygamy – It Is Polygyny. I count you as a dear brother and hold you in the highest regard, but I was very disappointed at the number of errors in the paper, so much so that I find it necessary to address them in detail. Please  understand, I love you, but I love my King and His Word even more.  Please, walk with me as I share some corrections and counter points to your assertions.

It Is Not Polygamy – It Is Polygyny

It seems that every couple of years, the necessity arises to address one more unsavory issue plaguing the Hebrew Roots Movement, and especially the precious Israelite Identity adherents. The enemy is relentless in trying to turn this group into an esoteric-cum-occultic sect and having everyone in it vilified by virtue of association with those who espouse strange and nonbiblical ideas.

While this may be an attention grabbing and well-poisoning opening paragraph, what we are about to consider from the everlasting Word of our Elohim is far from ‘esoteric-cum-occultic’ and ‘nonbiblical.’

The Christian and Messianic Cancel Culture

I heard the newly popular term ‘cancel culture’ and didn’t think it applied to me until recently, then I figured out that Christians and Messianics have been playing that game for millennia. It just had a different name.

Most Hebrew roots and Messianic believers have experienced some form of ‘cancel culture.’ My first experience was about ten years ago at the hands of friends and community. As an ordained pastor who worked in or was very close to four different congregations, I began to share the things Abba was showing me in Scripture. He revealed the Torah and His feasts as well as His Shabbats and His dietary instructions in a light entirely different than what I had been taught or was teaching in the Church. I was experiencing blessing and change in my life and I shared excitedly the things I was learning.

UPDATE: Re: The ‘One Bride’ Myth

Several days ago, I published an article titled ‘The One Bride (of Messiah) Myth.’ While it has had a number of hits, there has been surprising little push back, and all in private. Either, readers have decided that I’m finally completely off my rocker, or the information is worth weighing seriously while understanding what Scripture actually says on the matter v. ancient doctrines that cut part of the Israelite family out of the picture. My prayer is that it is the latter.

Anyway, the only really valid question that I received was regarding Revelation 21:9-12,

Democracy v. Tribalism (Greco-Romanism v. kol Israel)

Restored kol Israel will most definitely not be a democratic governmental structure, nor will it be a republic or communist governed society. Further, it will not be a monarchy as any of us currently understand it. In fact, none of currently living humanity has ever lived under a structure that we will experience in restored Israel, however very few have ever considered this fact. The following truths also explain why so many organizations that seek to restore the family have failed.

All man-made government system, such as those previously mentioned, are ‘top-down’ models. They all impose order from a higher order that may or may not claim Divine authority, however none employ the God ordained authority structure evident in the Torah and Scripture as a whole.

The Torah is a revelation of God’s character, His Divine authority, His righteousness, and His plan for personal and national function. it is instructive to note that nowhere is there a national governing body or structure. We errantly assume that some sort of structure must exist and only interpret the Torah as a moral code. Yet, it is actually a national constitution for kol Israel.

Because we have all been inculcated with various forms of ‘top-down’ government, we find it difficult to see that Israel was never meant to have an over arching government that could/would violate the rights and authority of the patriarch of the home for the ‘good of the nation.’ Solomon was a great example of HUGE abuses of power as the expense of the average man.

The ‘One Bride (of Messiah)’ Myth

Christendom (including most Hebrew roots/Torahkeepers, etc) and Judaism (including most Messianic Jews) share in a ‘one bride’ doctrine that is not supported by Scripture, though most have blindly accepted it. While each has a slight variation on how it is perceived and understood, the result is the same for both groups: rejection of the other and some type of replacement theology. This is both a challenging and complex topic, so we need to unpack some things from each side.

I was reared in the Christian church and am seminary trained. Further, I pastored a church for ten years, the last two of which I began to really seek the Father for deeper truth and understanding in some areas where I found holes in accepted doctrines. Long story short, I came to a place of accepting and walking in the everlasting Torah of Moses, while retaining my belief in Yeshua/Jesus the Messiah/Memra. More details about me here.

During those years and until about five years ago, I believed as everyone I knew: God/Yeshua has one bride. End of story.

Then, I began to see conflicting Scripture that began a journey of greater understanding and deeper truths, a journey that is absolutely critical to the restoration of kol Israel!! Different facets of this journey will be shared in the near future, but the major elements that are critical to understanding Scripture and the purpose and process of restoration include Biblical marriage, patriarchy, and two-house theology.

To be clear, each of those topics individually send many people into apoplectic seizures, however the combination exposes the adversary’s worst nightmare. But, I digress.

In future articles, I will try to frame the details of the convergence of these topics and why they are so very critical to the restoration of kol Israel, but for this article, I want to deal with the ‘one-bride’ myth.

EXCELLENT video!! Chris Gunther and Nehemiah Gordon

Camp Ephraim is mentioned in my previous post as one organization making the feasts very inexpensive for those who want to ‘go up’ in obedience to the commandments. We (AniYosef.com) are connected with Camp Ephraim and are excited to see this video released today, even though it was filmed two years ago!!

Sukkot in the exile…

16 “Three times in a year all your males shall appear before the Lord your God in the place which He chooses, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread and at the Feast of Weeks and at the Feast of Booths, and they shall not appear before the Lord empty-handed. 17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you.

Deuteronomy 16:16-17

The last several years, my wife and I have been blessed to be able to be in Jerusalem for Sukkot and Passover. This year has been one of disappointments and lessons. Flight cancellations in the Spring and closed borders for the Fall feasts leave us barred from celebrating in Jerusalem for the first time in several years. My heart hurts so badly.

Before we began making the trek with frequency, I did not understand the ravings of those who made the pilgrimage at least once per year. Now, I share in their loss. There is a reason God commands at least the males to come up to Jerusalem at the feasts!
