A Sunday Church Service…

I have been totally engrossed in preparing eight messages/teachings for Sukkot.  As a result, I have not been able to write, like I enjoy doing…  (Though, the Ezra series will likely end up on the blog…  Currently, it is starting to look like it will be a small book!)

Here is a good video that will make each of us think.  Enjoy and pass along to others…  Challenge the establishment!

YHWH was pleased for His righteousness’ sake to…

YHWH was pleased for His righteousness’ sake to make the Torah great and glorious! Is. 42:21

Did He stop being righteous?

Did He change His mind?

Or, is the idea that He did away with His Torah a FALSE teaching that does NOT square with Scripture in the front OR the back of the Book?

Now it will come about that
In the last days
The mountain of the house of the Lord
Will be established as the chief of the mountains,
And will be raised above the hills;
And all the nations will stream to it.
And many peoples will come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
That He may teach us concerning His ways
And that we may walk in His paths.”
For the TORAH will go forth from Zion
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
 And He will judge between the nations,
And will  render decisions for many peoples;
And they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not lift up sword against nation,
And never again will they learn war.

 Come, house of Jacob, and let us walk in the light of the LordIsaiah 2:2-5

Got Torah?

Translators & ‘the lying pen of the scribes…’ Pt. 3

In order to enjoy this part of the series the most, go get a third grader who is decent at reading.  You’ll need them in a few minutes to demonstrate that this one does NOT take a degree in rocket science, or even Greek knowledge…  Rather, we’ll give a ‘poster child’ case for eisegesis, reading INTO the text what one wants it to say.

Parts 1 & 2 are here, if you want to read them.

Here is the verse in question:

On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his [a]message until midnight.  (Acts 20:7)

Let’s take a look at the Greek.  Here’s where you need your third grader. Continue reading

Translators & ‘the lying pen of the scribes…’ Pt.2

A couple days ago I posted the first in this occasional series…

Today, we follow up with another example of clear translator bias that leads to false theology or wrong understanding of Scripture.

Let’s look at Acts 7:38.

This is the one who was in the [a]congregation in the wilderness together with the angel who was speaking to him on Mount Sinai, and who was with our fathers; and he received living oracles to pass on to you.

As you found in the previous post, if you hit the footnote, copied directly from BibleGateway.com, Continue reading

Translators & ‘the lying pen of the scribes.’ Pt.1

How can you say, ‘We are wise,
And the law of the Lord is with us’?
But behold, the lying pen of the scribes
Has made it into a lie.  Jeremiah 8:8

It is time to begin another series, albeit, semi-regular.  I have just found another verse in Scripture that is clearly mistranslated by almost every translation and effects the common man’s theological thought process…  Jeremiah said rightly, “How can you say, ‘We are wise,
And the law of the Lord is with us’?  But behold, the lying pen of the scribes has made it into a lie.”

First, let me state unequivocally, most translations are pretty good, HOWEVER, NONE is perfect and it is incumbent upon every student of the Word to learn to use tools that help them dig out the TRUTH without the filter of the pulpit, doctrinal statements or other functions of men.

Second, the purpose of this series is NOT to denigrate any particular translation or shake your faith in whatever translation you prefer, RATHER it is to demonstrate that each of us who claims to love Messiah Y’shua needs to be learning skills and computer programs that helps us dig deeper into the Word.  Continue reading

By what standard?? Pray tell!

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin        Hebrews 4:15

The author of the book of Hebrews tells us that Messiah Y’shua was without sin.  By what standard was this determination made?

the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.    I John 2:3-6

The Apostle John tells us that if we abide in the Messiah, then we will ‘walk as He walked.’  We will ‘do as He did.’  By what standard did He walk/do?

Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.  I Cor. 11:1

If we are to imitate Rav Shaul who is imitating Messiah Y’shua, by what standard do we imitate? Continue reading

The Remez Gospel

So, I was reading in the Gospel of John, when I saw a ‘picture’ I had never seen before.

One of the really cool things I have learned as I have grown in this Hebraic walk, is that there is so much more depth to Scripture than I ever imagined before embracing the fulness of what the Word says.  Now, when I read, there are time something will fly off the page and smack me between the eyes revealing a new and glorious insight.  Let me share an exciting hidden treasure Continue reading

Words I LONG to hear…

Y’shua said,

‘Whoever keeps and teaches (the Commandments), he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.’  Matthew 5:19b

We live in a time and culture that elevates all manner of men to be ‘heroes.’  We have movies about ‘super-heroes,’ toys called ‘Rescue Heroes,’ and TV shows about ‘Real Life Heroes.’  We are taught to desire to be heroic, or at least look up to those who are…  In most cases, the focus is on the ‘hero’ or his/her ‘powers’ and little if any focus is on the Creator of the Universe.

Scripture has a similar message, but goes a step further and tells us exactly HOW to be ‘heroes’…  to use that terminology, while keeping the Creator, YHWH, central in our focus.  ‘Keep and teach the commandments.’

There is an even clearer passage that I was recently reminded of that spells out for us a couple ‘titles’ we should strive for.

Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins;
You will raise up the age-old foundations;
And you will be called the repairer of the breach, Continue reading

Shoftim: Defining the Messiah

This week’s Torah potion is fascinating in that it offers several very clear pictures concerning our Moshiach.  We see pictures of Him as judge, king and the most famous and clear picture, as prophet.  There is a shadow of Him as priest as well…

Here are some thoughts and Scriptures to help tie them together.  I pray you find the time to ponder more deeply and be blessed by this post.

Judge

This Torah portion is Deuteronomy 16:18 to 21:9.  It is titled ‘Shoftim’ meaning ‘judges.’

Two passages in this portion as well as a few other verses contribute to the ‘judge’ image.  Consider:

You shall appoint for yourself judges and officers in all your towns which the Lord your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous Continue reading
