After reading Pete Rambo’s article “Tearing Down the Asherim“, several tangents came to mind. This is the third tangent which goes off of Tangent #2.

Consider Revelation 2:20.

But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.

This is more serious than I realized and I already knew it was bad. Even in one of the 7 churches that belong to Yeshua, they had issues with Baal worship. Why do I say that?

The connection with Jezebel is a hint at the pagan queen who King Ahab married and by whom he was dominated. Jezebel sponsored the prophets of Asherah as recorded in I Kings 18.

What do you want to bet those idols Yeshua mentioned were Baal and Asherah? It was for this idolatry and syncretism that the northern tribes of Israel were sent into exile and Judah got sent into exile for 70 years.

32 They also feared the LORD (YHVH)  and appointed from among themselves priests of the high places, who acted for them in the houses of the high places.

33 They feared the LORD (YHVH) and served their own gods according to the custom of the nations from among whom they had been carried away into exile.

II Kings 17:32-33

So, I don’t think we can say that just because we worship Yeshua (He’s YHVaH, and the Voice of the Lord), that we are free from idol worship and syncretism in the West in the 21st century.
