Like many of you, I spend a great deal of time behind the wheel of my car. My commute to my office is quite short, but my job often has me on the road for three to five hours per work day. The first few months I spent the time listening to music and YouTube videos, but I slowly became convicted of the amount of time I was wasting. Then, three or four months ago I discovered that YouVersion Bible app has a play/listening mode for Scripture.
At the time of discovery, I was interested in rereading the book of Jeremiah, but was not diligent in finding the time. So, ‘light bulb,’ I simply hit ‘play’ on the YouVersion app and let it roll one day on a long trip. I haven’t stopped since then and have found that I can listen to dozens of chapters each day. In fact, I believe I can listen through the whole Bible every eight to ten weeks at my current pace! WOW!!
Granted, my mind is sometimes wandering or on my work, but I am confident that the Word is going in! What a great way to redeem time…
Well, today, I was on the phone with Laura Densmore of Bridge Connector Ministries and she shared another GREAT way to get the weekly Torah portion and more! By the leading of the Ruach in recent months, she put together a Daily Audio Torah cycle that will take you through the whole Bible in a year with a steady daily diet of the weekly portion, as well as Brit, prophets and writings! Not only that, there is often a short teaching thrown in and she still keeps it under 20 minutes a day! How perfect is that for most commuters? Whether driving or sitting on a train, this is a perfect habit to add to your daily routine. And, stay-at-home moms? Once the little ones head out the door, get your cup o’ Joe and sit with Laura for a few minutes each day!
Laura further shared that she has an app in development that will make the Daily Audio Torah even more accessible! I know that I will be keeping a close eye on her site!
I hope you will join me using either one, or both of these opportunities to redeem a few minutes each day and put some of the everlasting Word into your brainiac. 😉
Blessings!
I couldn’t agree more that getting His Word into our brainiacs is key. This simple step is critical and solves so many other issues that are introduced into our journey. To me, helping others getting started reading (or listening) for themselves is one of the sweetest gifts and one of the best forms of sharing the good news ever! I started “small and daily” and soon His Word became sweeter than honey and more precious than gold! Good work Pete Rambo!
