Well, we come to the end of this study and there are a few random thoughts, additions I want to part with. Each of these could be chased for studies of their own, but I want to point out simple connections to get your wheels turning and then, if you so desire, pursue the ideas on your own.
If you haven’t read the first parts of this study, particularly the first three or four parts, this will mean very little.
To recap, Elijah was a Torah keeping Gentile, grafted into Israel and an exact counterpart to Moses. While his life is significant, the illustration it teaches for the coming Great Tribulation is even more significant. He is a prototype of one of the Two Witnesses, which we demonstrated may well be a picture of the 144,000. They all tie together.
I want to spend a few minutes looking at Ahab and Jezebel as archetypes, and then a mention of some of the ‘works’ Eliyahu does in the Great Tribulation.
As we discussed much earlier in this study, Ahab is an antimessiah type person and Jezebel represents the ‘woman that rides the Beast’ as pictured in Revelation. I don’t have the time or motivation to dig deeper on these two topics, so I throw a few thoughts out there in hopes someone else will pick this up and dig deeper. If so, please share insights in the comments…
The story of Eliyahu and the prophets of Baal is recorded in 1 Kings 17-19. Other events that transpired during this time are not recorded in the middle of this story to prevent distraction from the main point. Rather, I believe they are recorded in the chapters that follow. I have not read deeply enough to figure out the timing, but that would be an interesting piece to study.
According to Brown-Driver-Briggs, Jezebel, means ‘unchaste’ or ‘Baal is husband to.’ As we already discussed, she is ‘drunk with the blood of the prophets/saints’ and she is on a mission to utterly eradicate all worship of the Living Elohim. She feeds the prophets of Baal (as we’ve see, ‘lord’) and Astarte (see derivatives of this word: Ishtar, …Easter?) at her table.
She destroys by deception as we see in Naboth’s vineyard. I hear proud shades of ‘I sit as a queen’ (Rev. 18:7, Isaiah 47:7-8?) coming from her lips and confirmed in her actions of ‘getting dolled-up’ (2 Kings 9: 27-37) before being ‘thrown down’ ala Rev. 18:9.
Certainly, there are more connections… I’ll let you, the reader, find them.
Ahab. Maybe some less obvious connectors here to the antimessiah, but the presence of wars, him winning battles he wasn’t supposed to win, and then ultimately dying in a fluke accident have strong shades of Daniel 11. This bears more study to see if there are tighter connections in the Ahab image with the antimessiah.
To close out with our ‘hero,’ Eliyahu, I wanted to mention a few thoughts on what we may see from him/them in the Great Tribulation.
Speaking of the Two Witnesses, Revelation 11:5-6 says,
And if anyone wants to harm them, fire flows out of their mouth and devours their enemies; so if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this way. 6 These have the power to shut up the sky, so that rain will not fall during the days of their prophesying; and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire.
The Two Witnesses have broad authority to bring the judgment of Yahweh as they minister truth and seek to lead people to repentance. Moshe turned water to blood and performed various other plagues. Eliyahu shut up the sky so it would not rain and called down fire from heaven.
It is significant to note that Abba does not entrust men of divided hearts with this measure of authority. If the Two Witnesses are indeed the 144,000 as we demonstrated evidence for in previous parts, then those men MUST be walking in the ways of Yahweh!! They MUST be men of righteousness! This blog demonstrates over and over that according to the Word of Yahweh, the definition of an undivided heart is one who follows Yeshua and fully keeps the Torah. Study this out. The Two Witnesses, whether individuals or groups, will be Torah Keepers and followers of Yeshua. If anyone comes and teaches contrary to Torah, or walks contrary to Torah, not only is he disqualified, but he is, by definition, a false teacher and one to be utterly avoided.
[Dear reader, please understand my heart. If this is new information to you, you must study this out. Don’t take my word for it. Study! By the definition of Scripture, a disciple of Yeshua will walk as He walked. How did He walk? He walked Torah. Teaching or doing anything contrary to Torah was an IMMEDIATE disqualifier as the Messiah.]
Christendom does not walk as Messiah walked, keeping Torah. The Two Witnesses will not come from that camp. That camp will be part of who the witnesses are sent to call to repentance. Judaism does not believe in Yeshua haMashiach. The Two Witnesses cannot come from that camp. That camp will be part of who the witnesses are sent to call to repentance. Both camps are off the narrow way and it is time for them to come home. Here is where we will see great apostasy and falling away. Most will reject the message I just explained. Sadly, only a remnant will teshuva/turn/repent.
The mission of the Two Witnesses will be to call out to those who are off the narrow way and invite them to ‘come home.’ Most will reject the message and fall away. Gloriously, Scripture promises a remnant.
Like Eliyahu caring for the woman and her son, I believe the witnesses will give spiritual and physical food during the time of the Great Tribulation. Your covering and protection is of Yah, but the hand, may well be these men… Look for them. They will be in the wilderness.
This seems the right place to draw to a close.
My heart is tender toward you as you read. If I could make a recommendation: Look up The Nehemiah Prayer Challenge. Strongly consider taking the challenge!! The time is short and the day grows dark. Seek Abba’s heart with your whole being. Cast yourself before Him and plead that He reveal all truth. Ask Him to show you false doctrine and open His Scriptures to your understanding. He will, I promise. He is calling the exiles home.
Abba promises that when [we] “invoke My name on the sons of Israel, … I will bless them.”
In the name of Yahweh, my Father and King, I want to bless you on your journey,
“Yahweh bless you, and keep you;
Yahweh make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you;
Yahweh lift up His countenance on you,
And give you peace.”
Shalom Aleichem, Pete
