Blindness Test

Good friend and fellow pilgrim, Travis Hughey, recently wrote and sent this to me.  So poignant considering I have been thinking of doing a series called ‘The (Not So) Quotable Church Fathers.’

BLINDNESS TEST

Following quote from Martin Luther’s commentary on Galatians (page 108)

Can you see the contradiction (one of many)?

—————————————————————————————————————

VERSES 8, 9.

Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

This concludes Paul’s discourse on justification. From now to the end of the Epistle the Apostle writes mostly of Christian conduct. But before he follows up his doctrinal discourse with practical precepts he once more reproves the Galatians. He is deeply displeased with them for relinquishing their divine doctrine. He tells them: “You have taken on teachers who intend to recommit you to the Law. By my doctrine I called you out of the darkness of ignorance into the wonderful light of the knowledge of God. I led you out of bondage into the freedom of the sons of God, not by the prescription of laws, but by the gift of heavenly and eternal blessings through Christ Jesus. How could you so soon forsake the light and return to darkness? How could you so quickly stray from grace into the Law, from freedom into bondage?”

—————————————————————————————————————

Contrast the apostle Paul’s statement concerning the Galatians “ye knew not God,” with Martin Luther’s blind assumption “recommit you to the Law.” See the word “recommit”?  Luther falsely assumes the Galatians were formerly under the Law, Paul preached freedom to them and now they are returning to that same Law.

How could they be under “the Law” if, according to the apostle Paul, they did not serve God, know God or were even known of God in the first place? The simple, and correct, answer is, they couldn’t. The “the weak and beggarly elements” Paul is speaking about is their temptation to return to the traditions of men (man’s ways masquerading as the ways of God).  How can the words from the very mouth of Yehovah be “the weak and beggarly elements”? They cannot or we have no Messiah.

The Galatians were redeemed from worldly pagan worship practices and were being seduced by Rabbinic Judaism (see 2 Kings 17:19, the “traditions of the elders” being sold as Torah, Mark 7:5-9, Acts 15:1 (circumcision for salvation is not in Torah)).

History is repeating itself. The Protestant church of today has embraced the ways of Rome rejecting the Father’s Feast Days (His appointed times for fellowship with His people by His Word) and wholeheartedly embracing Sunday worship (Rome’s observance, the opposite of Sabbath), Christmas (Rome’s observance, birth of the sun), Easter (Rome’s observance, spring fertility ritual), Lent (40 days BEFORE Easter fasting for Tammuz v. Yahshua fasted 40 days AFTER Passover), etc….

In fact the “church” of today has no festival or observance according to Yehovah’s specific instruction.

Maybe we should be asking why?

Are you redeemed “from” God or “to” Him?

Isaiah 24:1-6 completely supports what you are saying, as it describes what has been and continues to “defile” the earth. His words through Isaiah are and end days warning (along with Isaiah 66). So what does YHVH say is “defiling” the earth?…its inhabitants. What are they doing that YHVH considers “defiling”?
    1) because they have transgressed my Torah;
    2) changed my ordinances; and
    3) broken the everlasting covenant.
It is so clear it hurts to see so many “blind” people in the churches. Luther is calling YHVH’s Torah and it’s ordinance as “weak and beggarly” which is exactly what Satan wanted to happen.

It’s so sad to see all those who have been sung the lullaby of Rome. Hopefully we can shout loud enough to be heard over that siren song. I pray Yah will awaken the bride and she cleans her robe before the Bridegroom shows up.

        Beloved brothers in arms,
Oh how I love my fellow warriors in this fight to the death for Elohim”s honor. Battle lines are forming. All who belong to the True God WILL “COME OUT OF BABYLON”. For this is the command from the Throne. His sheep hear. His sheep obey. We love Him. We would rather die than dishonor Him in the slightest. The goats have no comprehension of this. We speak in a language they know not !
It is the language of a child. It is the language of love.
They speak in a language of dark lies and murder. For that is the language of there father.

  4. I hear you on Luther walking in what light he had but honestly he had the same information we have today. He resisted Torah in every way possible. It was in conflict with his “faith alone” perspective and message. Remember his “protestant revolution was born from offense and not from the peace that passes all understanding. He believed the book of James as well as Revelations should have not been included in the cannon of scripture because of the emphasis both book put on observance of the Fathers instructions. He considered the Sabbath and Feast Days of Yehovah “Jewish Superstitions” (as did most of the re-formers) and even held to the perpetual virginity of Mary. Honestly, these guys were only interested in changing Roman Catholicism, not returning to Torah. Yahshua said it best:
Mat 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Mat 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

    • I might add though, there seems to be a pattern in scripture of Yehovah’s people being kept/captive in Babylon for some time before they are freed. This captivity if carried away too long becomes slavery but it also has the advantage of being a place of keeping until the times of Yehovah’s purposes. I believe this is why the thing we call Christianity today has been allowed to remain. While the enemy has used it for confusion and keeping people in darkness, Yehovah will use the same thing for our deliverance.

Good discussion here. I wrestle with who will be held accountable for what… ‘To whom much is given, much is required.’ Much was given to Luther. Others who followed out of the RCC in Protestantism… maybe not as much… Other post I mentioned Luke 12:41-48 (esp. 47-48).

I’m just glad our Father knows the hearts and is a just Judge!

For those today who are being shown the truth, over and over, yet they resist… ESPECIALLY the pastors/teachers… I think the medal for that one may look distinctly like a millstone. Sad.

      • This struggle is difficult and in true form (given by Yahshua) we will be asked to give all in the conflict we ultimately will win. I believe (as much as I can) I’m personally prepared for that but we must not forget those of our families who too take the heat because of our stand. In our praying for each other, let’s not forget those who are not seen and heard but stand to lose, and feel the heat as well. I too sometime weep for those I know who simply cannot see it. It’s like watching them hell bent on walking in front of a freight train and fighting your efforts to keep them off the track. They being blind and deaf cannot see the massive thing moving toward them at such a fast rate or hear the horn blast. By the time they feel the rumble of the ground beneath their feet it will be too late. It’s heartbreaking. It makes one ill at times. I’m beginning to understand how the prophets of old felt as they were fought by the leaders of the day when begging Israel to repent from their idolatry.
Php 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Php 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
        Php 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Php 3:11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
Php 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
Php 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Php 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

By the way, I used to live in Shelton and Bellingham. Loved it there. If we were still there I’m sure fellowship with ya’ll would be great!!.
Shalom to you and yours from us here in the south!!
