A couple weeks ago, I shared the Shema wall vinyl that I had WallWritten.com make for me. Well, since then, I am guessing they have sold a few, because at least one friend and reader sent me a pic of what is now in his home. It is posted below.
I had an idea for a blank wall in my office at work that would incorporate the Hebrew text recently placed in large font on the wall of our living room. Here is a pic of the final product followed by several other related pics.
24″ wide by about 15″ high, this vinyl on a visible wall at work will be sure to start a conversation of two. The neat part of the Shema is that like the text in the Torah, this includes the ‘jots’ of the two enlarged letters that, when put together, mean ‘witness.’ Marinate.

Very nice. I am wondering, what do you think is the connection between witnessing and accepting the yoke of heaven? Why do you need at least two witnesses? BTW, am having a rough day. No milk for my coffee. So I miss you.

Regarding your questions, those set off a number of thoughts, not the least of which is why I didn’t mention the need for two witnesses in my previous article! D’uh!! Judah and Ephraim are two witnesses.
One can give false testimony, however, it is much harder for two to give false testimony as it requires collusion and therefore the overt/intentional sin of lying. Somewhere I recently wrote about the need for two eyes to see in stereo (depth) and two ears to hear in stereo (location). Two witnesses provide the same type of accuracy from varying vantage points.
On Shabbat our discussion included one gentleman mentioning that there is a verse in the Tanak that says two witnesses that are at personal odds provide a stronger testimony than two who are in absolute agreement. Do you recall a verse or passage that makes this point or allusion? We could not remember/find it.
Accepting the yoke of heaven is, by definition, the act of becoming a witness. By doing so, one begins to take on the revealed character of the Almighty and be set apart as an attestation to Truth. The big difference in Judaic thought and Greek thought, as I see it, is that in Judaic thought a witness is what one is, while in Greek/Western thought, to witness is what one does, i.e., sit in the witness stand and give testimony, but it is just telling what the teller saw/heard/felt, but not necessarily what/who they are. Because God is more legalistic than most Christians realize. 🙂 The need for multiple witnesses is a legal statute, and two witnesses that are opposed to one another rules out collusion (I believe there was a reference to this in the Prophets). That is why Jews and Christians who both have testified of the same God, the same coming Kingdom, and the same coming Messiah (who will rule from the throne of David and take Torah to the nations) have been perfect witnesses because they have spent the last 1900 years at odds with one another.
