Plans for December 25th?

Most of the world has a pretty good idea what they will be doing December 25th, but I don’t.  Since we stopped celebrating that holiday, due to its myriad pagan rituals and connections, we have spent the last several December 25ths with friends doing various things.

Last year, a group of friends helped us with finishing a barn, the year before we hosted a bunch of Messianic friends and I taught a cheese making class, etc…

Well, it is time to start thinking about what we will do this year.  While we could simply stay home and do nothing, and I am fine with that, I know many other recovering former Christmas celebrants who need some activity as a way of avoiding the day’s traps.  So, I am pondering co-hosting a shofar making class in a friend’s shop….  Is there anybody in the SC area that would be interested in a day of fellowship and shofar-making??

And, if you are not in this area, maybe you can plan a December 25th gathering for a bunch of Messianics to do something other than what the world will be doing….

The time to make plans and preparations is now…

Shalom!

For the last three years on Dec 25th a group of us (usually a dozen or so) meet at the Battery in downtown Charleston to pray for our city, state and nation. We blow the shofar toward Jerusalem which is pointed out into the harbor, and then we dance in the outdoor gazebo in the park (White Point Gardens) It has caught the attention of some (especially blowing the shofar) and sparked some interesting conversations! Afterwards we find a Chinese Restaurant for some food and fellowship! I’d hate to miss it this year but I like your idea of attending a shofar making class! :0)

And, I like the idea of what you guys do…. If interest here is limited, we may crash your party!! LOL. And, considering Shabbat is the day after…. Hmmmm. Awfully tempting!

About 15+ years ago, we were building our own home … and I mean that “We were building our own home!”. I will never forget a brother calling me up on December 24 and saying “What are you NOT doing tomorrow? … How about if I come help you on your house?”. Similar to us building a barn on labor day! Only makes sense. On one hand, I don’t want to make it a “special occasion” … because it is THE special occasion for the rest of the world. On the other hand, I want to combat the worship of this day … not the worship of those who are ignorant of the heathen significance of this day. You have given something to ponder … especially with it being the prep day for Shabbat. I think we should all say “Bah Humbug” … and “Halleluyah … We Delight in Your Shabbat!!!”. Let it be so. Shalom to your hearts and homes, Tom

We just flee! We rented a cottage with a swimming pool in Prine Albert in the Karoo (very very warm then), and we simply hide out for a few days until the world is over their crazy day. Not very popular with most of the family being the second year in a row we that we are “not home for Chrismas” and “shame what about your patents”, we are so over that guilttrip as well, thank you Abba for making us free from that
